Interview: Nehir Tuna – Yurt (Dormitory) | 2019 January Screenwriters Lab

Date:

Among those selected to take part in the Sundance Institute January Screenwriters Lab we find Nehir Tuna who brought Yurt (Dormitory) to the Sundance Mountain Resort just prior to the launch of the 2019 edition of Sundance. A filmmaker on a dozen shorts since 2004, Tuna is in the MFA Graduate Film Program at Columbia University.

Dormitory is what happens when forced to leave the comfort of his middle class lifestyle at his father’s behest, eleven-year-old Ahmet is sent to an all-boys religious dormitory where he must navigate familial expectations, his religious obligations, and the childhood to which he so desperately clings. Here is a quick chat with Nehir Tuna during the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
