Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2013: #86. Danny Boyle’s Trance

Date:

Trance

Director: Danny Boyle
Writer(s): Joe Ahearne, John Hodge
Producer(s): Cloud Eight Films’ Christian Colson
U.S. Distributor: Fox Searchlight
Cast: James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, Vincent Cassel

Just when you’re about to flip the off-switch and let Cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle rush us with odd angles and neons, Danny Boyle decides to reunite with (Shallow Grave and Trainspotting) writer John Hodge on what the filmmaker asserts is a nouveau kind of noir. A specialist in placing characters in the most extreme situations (see Sunshine, 28 Days Later, 127 Hours), we look forward in seeing how James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel make their way out of this maze.

Gist: An art auctioneer (McAvoy) who has become mixed up with a group of criminals partners with a hypnotherapist (Dawson) in order to recover a lost painting.

Release Date: Brits will get to see the film in March, but Fox Searchlight hasn’t delivered a Stateside festival playdate. Could this break into the Tribeca Film Festival if they give it a spring release?
